"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. A summary of the conversation between the learned jurist, Sheikh, and educator, the late Sheikh Sidi Al-Amine Rusi El-Hassani, may Allah have mercy on him, and his son, the esteemed Dr. Sidi Abdeljalil Rusi El Hassani, may Allah preserve him, regarding the nature of miracles (karamat) and their manifestation on the servants of Allah."
The Hafiz, Professor Dr. Sidi Abdeljalil, may Allah preserve him, states in his book "Ra'i Al-Fada'il" (The Shepherd of Virtues): "When I asked my sheikh, may Allah sanctify his soul, during a lesson about miracles (karamat) and guardianship (wilaya), he answered, 'Listen, my son. Scholars unanimously agree that miracles (karamat) are for those whom Allah has chosen and granted His guardianship. A wali is one who takes up obedience to Allah, and Allah, in turn, bestows upon him miracles(karamat) , care, and protection. "Behold, indeed, the friends of Allah—there is no fear concerning them, nor do they grieve. Those who have believed and were fearing Allah. For them are good tidings in the worldly life and in the Hereafter. No change is there in the words of Allah. That is the great attainment." (Quran, Surah Yunus 10:62-64).
Miraculous occurrences, when manifest in the life of a Prophet or Messenger, are considered signs (mu'jizat) bestowed upon them by Allah. If such occurrences manifest in the life of a wali (saint) from among the righteous, they are considered karama (miracle). If they manifest in the life of any devout servant of Allah, it serves as a divine support, strengthening their faith in the unlimited power of Allah. Allah, the Most High, knows His chosen ones, the righteous, and those who journey towards Him. As for us, we judge based on the apparent, while Allah knows the hidden secrets.
The occurrence of miracles (karamat) signifies that Allah testifies to His servant's devotion and shows him signs. The wali receives strength and capabilities beyond ordinary means, supported by Allah's favor, to progress from one spiritual station to another. However, the seeker must not rely solely on such occurrences but should remain connected to Allah to attain true freedom within his servitude to Allah and richness in his dependence on Him.
It is emphasized that the secrets of miracles return to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Miracles are the fruits of righteous deeds. By adhering to the teachings and boundaries set by the Prophet (peace be upon him), the wali receives the mentioned blessings. The one who neglects Islamic principles, even if he performs extraordinary feats, is considered a deceptive magician. The occurrence of miracles (karamat) testifies that Allah has chosen and favored His wali. The wali's spiritual state surpasses any ability or magic.
The purpose of miracles (karamat) is for Allah to show His wali from His signs, and the wali must remain close to Allah through obedience. The true wali does not boast about miracles (karamat) , remains humble, and guards against arrogance. The occurrence of miracles (karamat) should enhance the wali's connection with Allah, strengthening his faith and gratitude.
In conclusion, the mentioned karamat include Allah preserving the wali's adherence to Sharia, the purity of the heart, the observance of Allah's rights, awareness of Allah's presence in the heart, and the facilitation of noble character traits. The wali should hasten towards goodness, maintain a constant connection with Allah, and enjoy a spiritual intimacy with Him at all times. These are among the numerous miracles (karamat) granted to the lover's of Allah, concealed from the knowledge of the people."
