In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"Indeed, the allies of Allah, there is no fear concerning them, nor do they grieve—those who have believed and were fearing Allah. For them are good tidings in the worldly life and in the Hereafter. There is no changing the words of Allah. That is the great attainment." (Quran 10:62-64)
O seeker of the path, the cultivator who tills the land, irrigates it with his sweat, nurtures it with patience and dedication, and combines all of this with faith in his Lord and sincerity in his work becomes a guardian (wali) among the allies of Allah. Similarly, the worker who produces, the merchant who deals honestly without deception, and the employee who fulfills his duties responsibly before Allah and people are also considered allies of Allah. The concept of guardianship, as we find, involves implementing the commands of Islam and adhering to the teachings of religion. Whoever wishes to be a guardian for Allah must obey His Messenger in all his commands and prohibitions. Allah says: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'" (Quran 3:31). The allies of Allah are His beloved, chosen, and honored ones who dedicate their love to Him and trust in their Lord. A true guardian is one whose heart is filled with the love of Allah, constantly contemplating His greatness. If he sees anything, he sees the signs of Allah's power; if he hears anything, he hears the verses of Allah; if he speaks, he praises Allah Almighty; and if he strives, he does so in obedience to Allah. In this way, he becomes a guardian among the allies of Allah because nothing emanates from him except what pleases Allah. It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "Indeed, Allah has servants; whenever they intend, Allah intends. And Allah says, 'I am with My servant as long as he intends goodness.'" The allies of Allah are those who adhere to obedience and are honored with dignity and excellent reward. They receive good news of His support in this worldly life and His pleasure and paradise in the Hereafter. Thus, a guardian is one who maintains balance in obedience to Allah in speech, action, and attitude and remains steadfast in doing so. The care of Allah watches over him at all times, shielding him from sorrows and attaining the satisfaction of the Most Merciful. In a sacred hadith, Allah declares His favor upon His servant: "Whoever shows enmity to a friend (wali) of Mine, I have declared war against him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have imposed upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it." Thus, the guardian of Allah may not be aware of the extent of his own nobility. The path of truth is one; it is followed by the sincere allies of Allah, and it is the path trodden by the believers who do not deviate. They adhere to the teachings of Allah and avoid what He has prohibited. They have no reference but the Quran and the authentic sayings of the Prophet. They emulate the actions of the righteous predecessors, the chosen ones of the Islamic nation.
