God Is Known by God
How can a veiled eye behold the light?
And how can a heart captive to worlds grasp the One whom no worlds contain?
He is not known by mind, nor grasped by illusion,
Nor pointed to by letters.
Yet He manifests to the pure,
Is tasted by the renouncer,
And dwells in the heart where nothing remains but God.
God is not known through proof,
Nor comprehended by comparison,
Nor reached through questioning.
He is known only by God, by God, by God.
Whoever knows Him by himself, has not known Him.
Whoever seeks Him through books, thought, or measure,
Has not drawn near.
He is the One who guides to Himself,
The goal, and the path.
He is the First without beginning,
The Last without end,
The love that never fades,
The secret that cannot be told.
And in whom the sun of meaning rises,
No witness is needed,
For presence is truer than proof,
And certainty purer than speech.
He has no place, nor time,
He is the essence beyond all definition,
The light that never fades,
The truth that never departs.
Whoever soars in the sky of His knowledge,
Sees none but Him,
For all existence is a radiance from His radiance,
And every soul lives by Him and breathes Him.
In the silence of the heart,
And in the depth of longing,
The gates of wisdom open,
And the curtains of mystery fall.
There, where words cease,
And mind alone cannot comprehend,
God is known by God.
